We are proud practitioners of the Growing Participator Approach!
The progression from each phase depends on number of hours committed, frequency of classes, and effort from each student!
What is the Growing Participator Approach?
-
Phase 1: CONNECTING
900+ words gained
This is your introduction to the world of Arabic language. Through activities and practice with your teacher, you will build foundational blocks of your Arabic vocabulary.
-
Phase 2: EMERGING
1200+ words gained
By the end of Phase 2, you will begin to connect with Arabic native speakers, understand simple stories, and start speaking more easily.
-
Phase 3: KNOWABLE
2000+ words gained
In Phase 3, native Arabic speakers will begin to notice changes in your ability to understand and connect with them. Real conversations will become possible in this phase.
-
Phase 4: DEEP PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
This is known as the “Big Middle Phase” in the GPA framework! This is the “make-or-break phase— you’ll be able to connect with native speakers at this level, but don’t plateau here! This is the transitional phase to group conversations and talking about complex stories and abstract topics.
-
Phase 5: WIDENING UNDERSTANDING
In Phase 5, you will be able to understand most of what you hear, even when native speakers are not directly speaking to you. You will be able to fit into host communities such as work teams and social groups without disrupting them or slowing them down.
-
Phase 6: EVER PARTICIPATING/GROWING
This phase continues as long as you spend time among native Arabic speakers. You have the ability to understand most of what native Arabic speakers say/do around you. Through real life participation, you will continue to slowly and steadily build new vocabulary.
